W. James Tozer, Jr. is a venture investor, real estate developer and corporate advisor. Having joined Citibank after graduate school, Jim Tozer’s career path started with international venture capital, followed by VP of Corporate Development, founding head of the Merchant Banking Group, Policy Committee Member, and finally SVP and General Manager of the New York City branch banking system.
Following Citibank, Jim served sequentially as head of investment banking at Shearson Hayden Stone, head of corporate and international banking at Marine Midland Bank/HSBC, and then president of Prudential-Bache Securities and of Lincolnshire Management, a private equity firm. Throughout this period, he was also involved in personal real estate and venture investing.
Jim Tozer was the co-founder of Vectra Banking Corporation, which grew to become the second largest independent commercial bank in metropolitan Denver before it was sold to Zions Bank Corporation in early 1998. Jim and a partner then acquired control of Draper Bank, the leading bank in the southern half of the Salt Lake Valley. In 2001, it was also sold to Zions. He was also a founding investor and director of LendingTree.
In addition to serving on a diversity of corporate boards, Jim Tozer is a current or former trustee of Trinity College, the Citizens Budget Commission, Community Service Society, Utah Symphony Utah Opera, the Deer Valley Music Festival, the School for Field Studies and Episcopal Charities of New York.
Jim, a Utah native, is a graduate of East High in Salt Lake City. He received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics from Trinity College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He and his wife, Zibby, live in Park City, Utah and have vacation homes in New York.
